From Burnout to Balance: How to Fall in Love with Your Work Again

February 23, 20253 min read

What would it take for you to fall in love with your work again?

This is a question I ask many of my clients, especially those feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or stuck.

For some, their dissatisfaction stems from a big life shift—like recovering from cancer treatment—that makes their old job feel incompatible with their new reality, either because they physically cannot do it any longer, or because they feel that the stress of their current work might be increasing the risk of a cancer recurrence, cardiovascular disease, or another chronic illness.

For others, it’s subtler: the slow erosion of joy, the weariness of endless to-do lists, or the nagging sense that the spark that once lit up their career is gone.

It’s not just about losing the honeymoon phase. Sometimes, it feels like you’re heading for a job divorce. Some of the people I speak with are just plain miserable and feel completely trapped.

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to give up on your work or yourself. You have options, even if they don’t feel obvious right now.

Some of my clients have found happiness by changing careers altogether. They’ve discovered new roles that align better with who they’ve become.

Others have taken a closer look at their current job and reimagined it in ways that reignited their passion—whether that meant letting go of certain responsibilities, advocating for better support, or rekindling their sense of purpose in the work they still love.

So, what would it take for you to rekindle that spark and fall in love with your job again?

Maybe it’s setting boundaries to protect your energy.

Maybe it’s reconnecting with what drew you to your work in the first place.

Maybe it’s realizing that recreating your job to let go of the things you hate and do more of the things you love is what you need.

Letting go of your job, or parts of it isn’t failure—it’s growth.

Falling in love with your work again is possible. It starts with being honest about what you need now.

Not five years ago, not last year—today.

Because the truth is, we all grow and change. And when you allow your career to grow and change with you, amazing things can happen.

Just as relationships with partners evolve over time, so does how we feel about our work.  And just as sometimes we have to remind ourselves why we chose our partner way back when (if we have one), so goes it with our work.

What do you think? Are you ready to take the first step toward a job you love again?

If you don’t love your job (not every minute, but enough), please know you can change that - whether you change where you work, what you are doing, or how you feel about it.

You deserve it.

And I can help you make it happen. If you don’t love your work, your relationship, or your life enough, please reach out.
