Frequently Asked Questions

Real questions. Real answers. Zero judgment.

You probably have questions about cancer coaching. I've gathered some of the most common ones here.

If you don’t see your question here, feel free to email me directly. I’ll get back to you personally.

What kinds of challenges do you help with?

I specialize in helping high-achieving women heal from:

~ Fear of recurrence

~ Fear and anxiety about scans, labs and the like “scanxiety

~ Anxiety, grief, and emotional exhaustion

~ Anger and resentment (at their body, at others, at life itself)

~ Identity loss after cancer

~ Work-life imbalance after a major health wake-up call

~ Relationship issues related to cancer (or even those predating your cancer)

~ Feeling stuck, unmotivated, or emotionally disconnected from their lives

Basically, if you’re feeling off—even if no one else can see it—I’m here to help you find your way forward. You deserve to find your “new normal” and create a life happier than even before cancer.

What results can I expect?

Clients typically report:

~ Freedom from constant fear of recurrence

~ Freedom from “scanxiety

~ Letting go of anger about their cancer (and everything else)

~The ability to enjoy life again—without guilt or hypervigilance

~ Renewed energy and mental clarity - the ability to define their priorities and live on their own terms

~ Stronger boundaries and healthier relationships

~ Greater ability to be present instead of ruminating about the past or feeling anxious about the future

~ Nothing bothers them much anymore

~ A deeper sense of purpose and meaning

~ A profound shift from mere survival to easy resilience and genuine thriving no matter what life–or cancer–throws at them

One client described it as "putting down a heavy backpack I didn't even realize I was carrying."

Can I really overcome my fear of recurrence? That sounds impossible.

Fear of recurrence is one of the most common and debilitating emotional challenges after cancer.

We work with both your conscious and unconscious mind to release the fear patterns at their source—not just manage symptoms. Clients describe this as transformative, often saying things like, "For the first time since diagnosis, I just don’t think about my cancer very much - and if I do, I don’t feel afraid or anxious.”

What exactly happens in the coaching sessions?

We begin with a breakthrough session where I listen deeply and ask clarifying questions to understand your unique situation and challenges. We’ll talk about what you’re feeling, where you’re stuck, and what you want to shift. Together, we identify the specific emotional patterns holding you back.

From there, we create a personalized approach using evidence-based techniques that help you release fear, anxiety, and other limiting emotions. This isn't about managing these feelings—it's about transforming them.

I’ll guide you using evidence-based tools and mindset work, as well as emotional release techniques I’ve refined over years of coaching - all in a setting of complete safety and zero judgment designed to allow you to be open and vulnerable and speak your truth.

Do you work with women who are currently in treatment or only those who have completed treatment?

Yes. Absolutely.

I work with women at all stages of their cancer journey—newly diagnosed, currently in treatment, recently completed treatment, years post-treatment, and those managing stage 4/metastatic cancer with ongoing care.

The emotional challenges of cancer don't wait for treatment to end. Neither should your emotional healing. Nor do those challenges automatically go away once you’re done with treatment. But you don’t have to keep them forever!

How is coaching different from therapy?

Coaching is not therapy—and it’s absolutely not meant to replace it. Many of my clients work with both a therapist and a coach, and the two approaches can complement each other beautifully. In fact, I’ve had clients tell me their therapist even suggested they work on a particular issue in their next coaching session.

Therapy often focuses on diagnosing or treating mental health conditions, or unpacking the past in detail.

Coaching focuses on helping you move forward—but that doesn’t mean we ignore the past.

We use what’s coming up in your life right now—fear, overwhelm, frustration, anxiety—as a way to identify and release the deeper emotional patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that are still running in the background and holding you back.

We work at both the conscious and unconscious levels to create rapid, lasting shifts in how you feel and respond to the events and people in your life–and your own thoughts.

Once you let go of what no longer serves you, creating the future you want becomes much easier.

How is coaching different from cancer support groups?

Support groups provide wonderful community and validation through shared experience. They're valuable for feeling less isolated.  I help run a large one online, and joining it changed my life!

Support groups are great for helping you feel understood. But sometimes they allow people to get stuck in their narrative - depending on how they are run, sometimes they can end up being problem-focused rather than solution-focused.

My coaching provides something different—individualized, targeted strategies to transform your relationship with cancer and create your new normal. While support groups offer understanding, coaching offers transformation.

I hope you’ll do both!

And for the best of both worlds, my group coaching program provides both the community support and shared experience and the focus on solutions rather than problems, with plenty of opportunities for individualized attention.

Have you personally had cancer?

Yes. I’ve been there.

I was a practicing physician for over 35 years before I was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2018. I know what it’s like to feel emotionally overwhelmed while still trying to hold everything together on the outside and take care of everyone else. That’s why I do this work.

This isn't just professional for me. It's personal.

How much time does this take? I’m already stretched thin.

Totally valid concern. If you weren’t feeling stressed and stretched, you wouldn’t be here! My coaching is specifically designed for high-achieving professional women with demanding schedules. Sessions are focused and efficient, with flexible scheduling options including evenings and some weekends.

The techniques I teach actually create more mental space and energy rather than depleting you. Many clients find they become more productive and focused at work and get time back as a result of our work together–because their minds are no longer distracted and constantly shifting back to thoughts of their cancer.

Sessions are typically 45-60 minutes, and we meet 3 times a month. You’ll also get tools and practices you can use between sessions—but nothing overwhelming.

Most of the transformational work is actually done in our sessions. If you’re doing some extra inner work on your own you can count on about 6 hours a month. If you’re working on a big physical project, such as finding a new job or redesigning your current one, you’ll need to spend additional time on that.

I’ve tried therapy, meditation, mindset work… and I’m still stuck. Can this still help?

Yes. Especially if you’ve already tried all the usual things and nothing has really shifted.

Myapproach is designed specifically for high-functioning women who are outwardly successful but internally exhausted. Women who are used to pushing through—but want to feel something different now.

If you're stuck, it’s not because you’re doing anything wrong.

It just means you might need a new kind of support.

What if I'm not sure I'm ready for coaching?

That’s fine! I wouldn’t expect you to be ready without a deep conversation.

I offer a complimentary consultation where we can explore whether coaching might be right for you at this time. We’ll talk about what’s bugging you, what you want instead, and what’s getting in your way. If after all that, it seems like we’re both a good fit for each other and I believe I can help you, we can discuss possible next steps. You can even book just a quick chat to see if a longer conversation is appropriate.
